Friends of Humanity International: Danish Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten confronts a situation where it must take steps to remedy the adverse effects caused by publishing offensive caricatures against Prophet Mohammad
On the 30th of last September, the Danish Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten committed a gross offense against Muslims by publishing disgraceful caricatures representing the works of 12 caricaturists on how they sarcastically envisage Prophet Mohammad.
As a number of one thousand three hundred millions of the world's total population (of which 120 thousand live in Denmark) are Muslims and believe in Prophet Mohammad as the Messenger of God, that he is the example of the highest and finest morals, such sketches and their shameful implications pose an unprecedented incitement to Muslims.
Friends of Humanity International considers the publication of such caricatures as a powerful tool serving to nourish discrimination against Muslims and to consolidate Islam phobia. It has an adverse impact on the process of integration Muslims into the Danish society and provokes hostile feelings against them, disgraces their image and their religious beliefs in general.
It is worth noting that freedom of opinion and expression on which the Danish daily accounts in justifying this shameful act is totally unfounded from both the legal and moral points of view. Defaming a religious minority which constitutes an integral part of the Danish social structure and harming the image of Muslims all over the world is in no way permissible on basis of the principle of opinion freedom.
Friends of Humanity International requests Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten t
1. Withdraw all the afore-mentioned caricatures from the newspaper's web site on the Internet.
2. Undertake to respect the Islamic beliefs and never permit any offense against the Islamic concepts and heritage.
3. Adopt a remedial action towards eliminating the adverse impact resulting from publishing such caricatures, by presenting topics on aspects of Prophet Mohammad's biography. The topics should be selected by the organizations of the Islamic minority in Denmark (for example), with the aim of introducing the true image and history of Prophet Mohammad to the Danish public opinion.
