ICSFP Condemns Bounty on Danish Cartoonist
(Washington, DC) The International Committee for the Support of the Final Prophet (ICSFP) condemns violence against those responsible for creating and circulating cartoons of the Prophet. The Prophet of Islam endured such insults throughout his life and would react with mercy. “According to scholars of sharia’ there is no place where such action of the Danish cartoonists would result in a death sentence,” stated ICSFP Chairman Ali Jomaa. “While we should not take the law into our own hands, we demand that authorities enforce their own laws against offending other religions and cultures,” he added.
ICSFP urges religious authorities to use their positions to have members of the media act responsibly. “Our challenge today is not to impose punitive measures for hateful words. The Qur’an teaches us to ‘repel the evil deed with one which is better, then lo! He, between whom and you there was enmity (will become) as though he was a bosom friend.’ (41:34),” added Jomaa.
ICSFP challenges Muslim and non-Muslim leaders to employ resources and talents toward better understanding and dialogue among people.
